MirrorGraph
AIONdb  ·  A MirrorGraph Product

Reality, held coherent.

AIONdb is the shared memory and coordination layer for AI agents and the systems they act on. One live, exact, provable record of what’s true — so every agent, device, and person works from the same reality.
The coherence substrate for the agentic world.

LSN 0001  ·  THE PROBLEM

Everything that acts needs to agree on what's true. Almost nothing does.

Reality is scattered across databases, applications, devices, and workflows — each holding its own copy, each drifting out of date the moment it's written. People have always worked around the gaps. But when software starts to act on those fragments, faster than anyone can check, drift stops being an inconvenience and becomes a safety problem. You can't safely automate what your systems can't agree on.

LSN 0002  ·  WHAT IT IS

Not a database you query. A reality that stays coherent.

A database waits to be asked. A memory layer stores fragments and hands them back. AIONdb does neither: it holds one living model of the world, resolves the full meaning of each change before anyone sees it, keeps every change in order, and proves what happened.

Every participant — a system, a device, a person, an agent — reads a world that has already been made coherent, instead of retrieving fragments and hoping they fit together.

LSN 0004  ·  THE MECHANISM

Write. Verify. Gate.

How the truth is held — and how a change becomes a safe action, or no action at all.

Verify
03
Gate
Real system
A device, a workflow, an actuator
PASSED · the command fires BLOCKED AT THE GATE · target not ready, the command never fires
01 · WRITE
Reality changes.
A reading, an observation, a correction enters the model and takes its place in order.
02 · VERIFY
The Guardian completes it.
Before anyone is notified, the system works out what the change means — contradictions, thresholds crossed, consequences — and settles the picture. No one ever reads a half-written world.
03 · GATE
Checked before it acts.
Before a change leaves the boundary as a command to a real device, AIONdb checks its declared prerequisites against the completed picture. If they aren't satisfied, the command is blocked at the edge — it never fires.
LSN 0005  ·  WHO IT'S FOR

Three places coherence isn't optional.

01
Consequential operations
Hospitals, buildings, grids, and industrial environments, where a wrong action can't be undone — one ordered, auditable picture every system and operator can trust.
02
Distributed software & digital twins
Many systems, one live operational state — instead of a dozen copies quietly disagreeing.
03
Multi-agent AI
The sharpest case of all: agents that must remember across sessions, coordinate without a central conductor, and prove what they did.
The memory doesn't live in the agent; the agent lives in the memory.
LSN 0006  ·  OPEN STANDARDS

Built on open standards.

One graph, reachable over every open surface your stack already speaks. Your data is portable, verifiable, and yours; swap AI models freely, and the memory stays in the substrate — a single engine, built in Rust.

The Shared Substrate
How intelligence has always coordinated — and why AI needs to learn the same lesson.
By Mike Monteith · March 2026

From cave paintings to enterprise databases to social networks — every advance in human coordination is the same story: someone built a better shared surface for knowledge. AI agents need the next one. This paper explains what it looks like, why it matters, and how MirrorGraph built it.

About MirrorGraph

MirrorGraph builds software that lets autonomous systems act on what's real. Our first product, AIONdb, holds one living model of reality coherent through change — so systems, people, and agents can act from the same completed, ordered, provable truth.

Founded in Toronto by systems architect Mike Monteith, after three decades building distributed systems for high-stakes operational environments — including healthcare, energy grids, and large-scale infrastructure — with eighteen of those years focused entirely on this problem.

What would you automate if every system shared the same truth?
